Wonthaggi Baptist Church

Wonthaggi Baptist Church has a history of serving God in the Bass Coast area. Wonthaggi was established in 1909 in response to the need to mine black coal in the only known area it existed in Victoria. The Church was opened in 1910 to provide for God’s work in the community.

Going back over the last 25 years the Church has been led by a number of faithful Pastors. Our last Pastor faithfully served from 2013-2021. He had a real heart for God’s calling and served both our church community and the Bass Coast community with energy, positivity and enthusiasm.

Our current Interim Pastor, Charles Lazaro, has served our church from August 2021 to the present.

We also employ a Children’s and Families Pastor two days a week.

Over the years as the congregation grew the buildings and facilities were extended. A church hall with kitchen and toilet facilities, foyer and offices were added. Recent major building works saw the construction of a much larger worship centre, foyer and small meeting rooms. There is also another small hall on the site used in Children’s ministries.

Prayer is a vital part of our church. Two prayer meetings a week and one monthly. Prayer before the service and after the service for those with needs every service. Prayer and praise points are emailed out weekly.

Worship services are great times of praise, worship, learning, growing closer to God together and sharing Communion. Post Covid our church numbers are increasing weekly to Pre Covid numbers. We are currently getting 130 people attend each Sunday Morning.
