Job Description

Bribie Island Church of Christ is a small but active congregation, established in 1975 and located at 42 Foley Street, Bongaree, Bribie Island, 80 kms north of Brisbane, Queensland. The Island is connected to the mainland by a vehicle bridge. Congregation attendees live on Bribie Island and in the surrounding areas on the mainland. There are three schools on the Island and others within a reasonable distance. The church is associated with and surrounded by a Churches of Christ campus that consists of an Aged Care facility, a large Retirement Village, a large and developing Low Cost Housing community and permanent resident caravan park.

 We believe that the overall responsibility of Bribie Island Church of Christ is to partner with God to fulfil His fundamental purposes and desires. We believe they are: praise & worship, mission, spiritual growth & transformation, and fellowship. Our church motto is to Love God and love others

Our current Pastor concludes an 11 year ministry in July 2021 and we are looking for a part time Interim Pastor who can bridge the period between the current Pastor and the calling of a new Pastor commencing early 2022. This appointment is for 24 hours per week.

In line with our responsibility and purpose, we are seeking a person who will support existing ministries and lead the congregation in connecting with the wider community. We have recently been experiencing an increase in attendance and have not lost any attendees as a result of the COVID period of church disruption.

The current congregation is between 50 and 60 attendees and consists mainly of seniors. We anticipate the Interim Pastor would walk alongside existing ministries and programs, support the weekly service, offer Pastoral Care and prepare the congregation to move into the next season that God has for us.

We anticipate that the major areas of responsibility will include:

  • Pastoral Care.
  • Outreach into the community leading to the establishment of a vibrant expression of Christian lifestyle and worship.
  • Preaching, Teaching, Praying and Worship Leading
  • Continue to uphold a close relationship with other Churches of Christ facilities and programs within the Bribie Campus.

 We are looking for an Interim Pastor and Leader who will fulfil the following core criteria:

  • Deep and ongoing personal relationship with Christ and reliance on His Spirit.
  • Identify with the vision, values and mission of this church.
  • A proven track record of effective contemporary ministry and mission within a local community.
  • Awareness of their own strengths and ability to utilise the strengths of others to complement their own weaknesses.
  • Appropriate theological training is vital as is familiarity with the ethos of Churches of Christ.
  • Applicants must already have the right to live and work in Australia.

 The successful applicant will be required to possess a Blue Card; have a National Police Record check; sign the Churches of Christ Queensland Code of Conduct for Ministering Persons; and be endorsed or able to be endorsed as a Ministering Person with Churches of Christ in Qld.

Conditions:

This will be the equivalent of a 24 hour a week position allowing for flexible use of the hours with salary and conditions based on the recommendation of Churches of Christ Queensland.

The person has the opportunity to join the cohort of pastors from Churches of Christ Queensland as a wider network.

Commencement date: 16th August 2021
