Job Description

Provide passionate leadership, vision and direction for Stephens’ children’s ministry and connect more children to faith in Jesus and the St. Stephen’s community through missional outreach

THE ROLE

We are looking for a person who has a passion for children and a desire to see our children’s ministry growing and developing - to ensure that our children grow in their faith, friendships, using their gifts and serving others.  The role is

  • 4 days per week, including Sundays (There is the possibility of extending this position to more than 4 days).  
  • Salary in accordance with the Sydney Anglican guidelines, dependent on qualifications and experience

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • To plan, organise and lead the children’s ministry programme
  • Lead, manage, train, oversee and deploy the children’s ministry team
  • Develop and implement a strategy for children’s ministry
  • Plan, implement and monitor the curriculum for children’s ministry
  • Recruit and train new leaders
  • Lead the SRE team at Willoughby Public School
  • Resource and support parents and families in the discipling of children
  • Responsible for the oversight and implementation of Safe Ministry requirements 

PERFORMANCE MEASURES

  • Programmes growing in numbers, participation, enthusiasm and vision
  • Growth in connections with children and families in the local community
  • Regular meetings with children’s ministry team for prayer, feedback, encouragement and training
  • Healthy relationships with children and parents and between team members
  • New children and families, followed-up and made to feel welcome
  • Children growing in discipleship and learning how to disciple others
  • Growing participation by children, (and parents), in the life of the church, eg Sunday mornings, prayer, learning how to use their gifts, and serving others
  • All St Stephen’s safe ministry policies implemented
  • Clear communication with all key stakeholders

  • A mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as Lord and saviour
  • Committed to daily prayer and bible reading
  • Personal integrity and professionalism with a good reputation with those inside and outside the church
  • Passionate about children and parents becoming followers of Jesus Christ
  • Self-driven, teachable, and with a positive attitude
  • Committed to the beliefs, vision and values of St Stephen’s

 SKILLS

  • Excellent teaching and communication skills
  • Creativity.  Ability to create an exciting and stimulating learning experience suited to the children of this area
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead and manage a team
  • Ability to develop and implement strategy
  • Good organisational skills
  • Self-organised
  • Proactive
  • Ability to think and critique theologically

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working with Children check
  • Experience in children’s ministry
  • A track-record of leading children’s ministry programmes, or evidence of ability
  • A formal theological qualification would be an advantage
  • Experience in education would be an advantage
