Donor Care and Support Coordinator

  • Christianity Works
  • Remote (Bondi Junction NSW, Australia)
Part time / Full time Admin & Office Support Customer Service Fundraising Nonprofit & Social Services

Job Description

  • About the Donor Care and Support Position

Christianityworks is seeking to recruit a permanent part-time team member in this position. This will be someone who loves encouraging, nurturing, caring for and praying with friends and supporters of the ministry.

By far and away the majority of this role is performed by telephone, SMS, email and post. Face-to-face contacts are rare.

The role involves both a front line ministry aspect (dealing directly with listeners and supporters) and an administrative support aspect. The key aspects of the role are as follows:

    • proactively building relationships with donors,
    • answering the phone and taking orders and donations,
    • following up voicemails left after hours,
    • responding to queries from the ministry’s websites, social media and emails,
    • calling and/or writing to donors to thank them for their support,
    • praying with and encouraging listeners, viewers and donors,
    • accurately updating the supporter database as required,
    • assisting in the large, monthly donor mailings (if working onsite – see next section),
    • following up expiring credit cards and failed donation payments,
    • overseeing donor and payment systems,
    • helping in tidying/cleaning the office and taking rubbish out (if working onsite – see next section),
    • taking mail to the post office (if working onsite – see next section), and
    • showing hospitality to volunteers (if working onsite – see next section).

Place and Hours of Work - Flexibility

The position is permanent part-time two days per week, with some additional hours from time to time, for instance, to cover for other staff members on leave. (There would typically be some notice when this is required.)

Technology enables a flexible approach to the place and hours of work.

The majority of the work could be undertaken remotely, meaning that the incumbent could live anywhere within Australia. Alternately the incumbent could work at Christianityworks’ Bondi Junction office, located within easy walking distance of the train station and bus terminal. A mixed approach of remote and office based work is also possible.

Work hours for this position are flexible too. For instance, the role could be performed over 4 half days per week (in many respects this would be desirable).

All work location and time arrangements however would be negotiated and are subject to the approval of Christianityworks’ management.

    Basis of Employment

Initial appointment will be on a 6 month probation, during which time the successful applicant will be engaged on a casual basis, trained and given every opportunity and encouragement to succeed.

Following the probationary period, if the individual is assessed as suitable for the role, employment will become permanent part–time.

However if at the sole discretion of Christianityworks management, the individual is found not to be suitable for the role during that time, the appointment will be discontinued.

The position reports to the Head of Operations of Christianityworks on a day–to–day basis.

    Necessary Skills and Abilities

The successful applicant will have the following attributes:

    • a deep passion to help people grow in their relationship with the Lord,
    • a caring heart, prepared to lend an ear and pray with people,
    • a proven track record in customer service and/or pastoral care roles,
    • a demonstrated ability to handle administrative detail and complexity, accurately and reliably,
    • the ability to learn quickly and remember detail,
    • honesty, integrity, professionalism and the ability to keep donor information confidential,
    • strong verbal communication and time management skills,
    • the desire and ability to work flexibly as part of a small team,
    • excellent typing and PC skills,
    • a passionate desire to be part of a ministry that sees countless lives transformed as it proclaims the Gospel through the media,
    • the ability to be flexible with work hours, and work additional days when required.

Prior experience in working in the donor management area of a not–for–profit organisation is highly desirable, but not mandatory.

    Personal Faith and Conduct

The Donor Care and Support Coordinator plays both a frontline ministry as well as an administrative support role.  As such, the incumbent must:

    • Be able to affirm his or her adherence to the ministry’s Statement of Faith (attached) as a prior condition of their appointment,
    • Be a mature Christian who actively lives out their faith as a disciple of Jesus Christ,
    • Understand that he or she is subject to the leadership and authority of the Head of Operations, the CEO and the Board of Christianityworks,
    • Endeavour to lead a life of holiness and honour to the Lord,
    • Observe appropriate dress standards, and
    • Not undertake any behaviour in his or her personal or professional life that may bring the ministry into disrepute.

Given the nature of the role within the context of the ministry of Christianityworks, any act or omission that in the view of the CEO brings or has the potential to bring the ministry into disrepute, may result in summary dismissal of the individual from the appointment.
