Job Description

Key objective: To initially lead the preschool children's ministry at New Life Evangelical Church (NLEC), equipping them to know and love God, inspiring children to live out their faith at home, schools, and communities in collaboration with NLEC pastors and leaders.

New Life Kids (NLK) is the children’s ministry in New Life Evangelical Church (NLEC). NLK is a hub ministry overseen by the English Congregation. There are around 200 children in this ministry, aged between toddler to grade 6. Most of their parents attend one of the three congregations at NLEC (English, Cantonese, and Mandarin). Our mission at New Life Kids is to partner with families in leading children to Jesus and becoming disciples who love and serve the Lord.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Help vision cast, lead, pioneer and develop NLK, together with the NextGen assistant pastor.
  • Provide pastoral care and nurture relationships within NLK (kids, young adult/youth leaders and coordinators)
  • Play a leading role in recruitment, encouragement, training communicating and team building with NLK volunteers (with an emphasis on young adult/youth leaders)
  • Oversee the development, preparation and rostering of NLK curriculum and programs, ensuring it is innovative, captivating and fun for kids to engage with God and one another
  • Provide leadership in running NLK programs onsite, including preaching in our preschool and primary school programs
  • Play an active role in the English pastoral team, including providing children’s ministry support in whole-church events such as combined services, church camps and leadership training days
  • Provide training and knowledge about up to date government’s policies/legislations (e.g. CCYP, WWCC)

Selection Criteria:

  • Passionate about connecting children and volunteers to the heart of Go
  • Experience in leading/pastoring children’s ministry and good rapport with children and young people
  • Creative skills for engaging with kids through curriculum, programs, and other resources
  • Engaging communicator with children and adults
  • Good time management skills and ability to prioritise
  • Works well under pressure and timelines
  • Competent use of technology/media (E-mail, Rostering, Elvanto ChMS, Instagram, Facebook, Canva)
  • Excellent communication skills in English and adequate fluency in Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin)

Qualification Requirements:

  • Experience in serving in children’s ministry (voluntary or paid, preferred minimum 2 years' experience)
  • Minimum Diploma of Theology or similar (undertaking Bachelor/Masters theological degree)
  • Provide up to date Working with Children Check and police check
  • Have a current driver's license, full license preferred

Working Requirements:

  • 0.6 EFT (3 days a week), with future considerations for 1.0 EFT (full time)
  • Available to work and serve in whole-church events outside of regular Sunday services
  • Attend English pastoral team meetings, other pastoral and NLK meetings as required
  • Available to work and serve in whole-church events outside of regular Sunday services
  • Available to be part of staff development and training events
