Job Description

Strathalbyn Church of Christ is seeking a Minister to be part of the leadership team to encourage the local believers to gather in local worship, to build one another up with the love of Jesus Christ and to be God’s witnesses in the rural town of Strathalbyn and beyond.

The Church

Strathalbyn Church of Christ has recently celebrated 150 years of Christian worship and testimony. The congregation of around 60 worshippers has recently been growing in numbers as we seek to faithfully present Gods word, as we seek to exercise pastoral care for each other and the community, and as we seek to reach out to the community through service and fellowship.

We believe in the sovereignty of God, the centrality of the cross of Christ and His sacrificial love for us, and the authority of scripture. We encourage the use of gifts and abilities for the service of Gods Kingdom here, and we want others to know Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

Our congregation is currently mostly in the over 50’s age group reflecting the growth in the retiree population of the rural Strathalbyn community (~+20% growth over past 5 years in Strathalbyn). However, Strathalbyn community is also growing as a family centre (~+15% growth in the number of under 17 yr olds in Strathalbyn over the past 5 years) and we also seek to explore a vision to reach these new families in our community.

The Minister will have

  • A deep desire for pastoral care in the congregation and the community
  • A willingness to serve with the Eldership team
  • Appropriate theological qualifications
  • Ministerial experience in a church of similar size and/or demographics,
  • Accreditation, or able to be accredited, with the Churches of Christ SA and NT

The successful minister will work with the Elders and the Church Board to achieve the following responsibilities:

  • To spiritually serve the wider congregation
  • To be a leader in pastoral care and to encourage and support the existing pastoral care activities
  • Work with the worship leaders to plan and execute the worship services of the church
  • With the Elders, be responsible for the preaching and teaching ministries of the church in accordance with the church’s statement of beliefs (www.strathalbynchurchofchrist.org.au)
  • Conduct weddings, funerals, baptisms (full immersion)
  • Participate in relationships with other denominations and churches of Strathalbyn
  • To lead by example and equip the congregation to develop and deliver the ministries of the church,
  • To participate in various community organisations and encourage the congregation likewise.

It is anticipated that the duties for this role will be approximately 4 days per week, being 0.8 EFT. Family accommodation (a 4x2 home) is available within Strathalbyn. An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
