Job Description

Primary Teacher Librarian T-6

(to commence in 2021)

The successful applicant will be registered with the New South Wales Educational Standards (NESA) and be accredited as Provisional, Proficient or an Experienced Teacher and also hold a recognised Teacher Librarian qualification, or relevant experience. The Primary Teacher Librarian will be responsible to the Headmaster through the Deputy Headmaster and the Director of Teaching and Learning T-6 and will also work closely with the College Library Coordinator on matters pertaining to the Libraries. They will be expected to teach Primary Library lessons and additional RFF classes as required, with an understanding of the NESA T-6 Curriculum. Ability and willingness to use a variety of teaching and learning techniques and to extend and provide for students according to their individual gifts and ambitions are essential.

Areas of responsibility:


  • Assist in the operation of the Primary Libraries as they grow
  • Assist with the Primary Library Stocktake
  • Assist in the preparation and completion of regulatory documentation
  • Assist with Transition to Year 6 Primary Library events
  • Model for students and staff locating, accessing and evaluating information
  • Efficiently operate the Library Management System, Clickview, and subscription databases
  • Assist with selecting, accessioning and cataloguing resources
  • Continue existing Library Monitor program
  • Assist with implementing and promoting the Premier’s Reading Challenge

Teaching and Learning

  • Deliver quality Primary Library lessons to T-6 incorporating Library skills, research skills, online resource evaluation and literature appreciation.
  • Work with T-6 staff in the delivery of quality teaching programs
  • Additional RFF teaching as required

Strong personal presence at College community events and functions
