We are Parish which is on a trajectory of revitalisation and change. We are located in the heart of Sydney’s Eastern suburbs, with three physical sites. The communities we work in cover suburbs from Bondi Junction and Waverley to Bondi, Bronte, Bondi Beach and North Bondi and includes the iconic urban beaches. Our area has a large and diverse population but a lower than average involvement in Christian churches.
Our missional focus is “Bondi for Jesus”. It is expressed in a clear plan to reach our area with a set of strategic initiatives. In the last few years we have moved from a declining set of congregations into a set of small but growing ministries. To set up systems to allow this to happen, we have successfully gone through an amalgamation from two parishes into one in the last three years. This has resulted in economies of scale which allows us to grow the staff team to lead and equip others. We currently have two full time ministers and a part time ministry leader, and a part time administrator.
We have a planted a new congregation into Bondi Beach in the last four years. Currently we have three Sunday congregations at two of our sites. We are a small but ambitious base seeking to move people along a pathway from a secular mindset into mature followers of Christ.
Summary of the Role
We are growing the full time staff team in 2021. We need someone who can lead others in effectively engaging with the community connections we are making through some of our “engine rooms”. We need a Community Connection Team Leader.
This role requires a gifted evangelist who loves seeing people come to trust in Jesus.
It will involve overseeing, modelling and equipping a team to pursue evangelistic opportunities that arise in the ministries. We envisage this position will develop and grow as the dynamics of the ministries do. There will be evangelistic activity including personal follow up, preaching and active dialogues. The initial focus will be on maximising opportunities for connection and evangelism around our kids and Youth ministries. The role requires the ability to write and present material at all our congregations and ministries as a part of a team working under our ministry team leader and Rector.
Lead and build a team to effectively connect with people on the periphery of our church ministry.
Oversee the pathways to grow numbers of people taking the next step to being a mature follower of Jesus.
Initially focusing on the connections and evangelism with families happening through our children’s and youth ministry.
This is a full time paid position, joining the Senior Minister, Martin Morgan and the Assistant church planter, Blake Hatton. We currently also have two part time staff team members.
Competencies, Character and Experience
-A clear and tested faith in and love for the Lord Jesus.
-An eagerness to contribute to the growth of healthy Christian communities.
-A warmth and emotional intelligence that allows you to relate well with people from varied backgrounds. People describe you as a “people person”.
-The character and gifting as set out for those overseeing ministry in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4.
-Gifting and Experience in evangelistic ministry in different contexts.
-Experience in leading teams of either paid or unpaid people.
-Some form of recognised Theological Education.
All workers in Sydney Anglican churches must do a Safe Ministry Check which includes WWCC, a police check and they must comply with the Faithfulness in Service code of conduct and declaration.
Remuneration package will be set according to that recommended by Sydney Anglican Diocese depending on qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.
